Booking business and first using awards

Booking business and first using awards

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Hi Lucky,

How are you? I have close to 120000 UR points and at least 30000 MR points. My vacation plans are 6 months away and my dream is to fly business/first on the following routes:

JFK-ICN (Korean Air, First, one way)
ICN-MAA (Cathay Pacific, Business, one way)
MAA-JFK (Eithad, business or first, one way)

Could you please provide pointers on how I can use those points to book award seats while accruing FFM? Should I buy economy tickets and then upgrade them?

It’s been my dream to travel in business or first for a long time and I am getting close.

    Thank you,
    Ananth

If youre booking awards, you wont accrue any miles on the award flights.

For JFK-ICN on KE, you can transfer Chase UR to KE Skypass and redeem online directly. it’s pretty straight forward. But assuming that youre not spending any time at ICN but are continuing onwards to MAA on CX via HKG, why not buy AS miles (especially if youre eligible for the 50% bonus) for travel on CX? They charge 62500 miles one way Business. If you stick with KE though, I’d book JFK-ICN-HKG with them then use Avios for HKG-MAA on CX.

If you go with the AS miles for the outbound, you can use UR points to get MAA-AUH-JFK in J (125k) or F on Etihad using their own program. THey allow a cash and points mix or you can transfer the rest from Amex MR.

I’m not sure UR points will transfer to EY though.
