Bonvoy Platinum… Rank within Elite Status?

Curious as to how Marriott determines which member within an elite status group would receive benefits if they are limited. For example, if two Platinum members ask for a suite upgrade, and there is only one suite available, how do they determine which member receives the upgrade. More specifically, I just earned Lifetime Platinum Elite does that count “more” than Platinum status or is it really just up to the discretion of whoever you are working with at the property?
