BA upgrades from J to F on recent fare sales…best time to look for avail

I booked a BA biz class fare sale ticket and was looking to upgrade with avios since its off-peak. All the seats are available in F for revenue, but none for avios. The trip is 7 months out, leaving on a friday 2/10 coming back on monday 2/20/17 but for example the 2/21/17 flight has F availability for avios right now. Any idea when a good time to check availability for this upgrade? Should I wait till closer to the flight?

I would keep checking periodically – sometimes upgrades happen to pop up randomly

Yep, check periodically, and then often within three weeks of departure. There’s no real rhyme or reason to how BA releases seats in the interim.
