Award Redemption

Looking to book 2 Business one way tix from CGN to ORD on Lufthansa using United miles for next December 4th (next year). When might I expect to see DLH award availability on the UAL site? Thank you.

I would wait about a month or so before checking award availability for Dec 2016. Flight schedules are not available until just under a year and award availability might not show up until 11 months away

United opens their schedule 338 days before departure: http://boardingarea.com/onemileatatime/2014/03/21/when-do-airlines-open-award-seats/

Is it best to book the first award that becomes available (and pay some sort of change fee), or is it better to chance it and wait for a better deal? As you can see, I’m new at this. Thanks…

No worries, we were all new once! I don’t think there’s much advantage to booking exactly at that window, as not all airlines release award space right at that moment. Within the first few weeks is ideal though, so we try to target 10-11 months out for the best selection.
