AUH-TLS Etihad or Lufthansa ticket?

AUH-TLS Etihad or Lufthansa ticket?

  1. Matt B Member

    Hi all,
I’ve got at least two similar trips coming up – Abu Dhabi to Toulouse. I want to fly in business.

The best option to me seems to be Etihad to/from Munich or Frankfurt, then Lufthansa between Germany and Toulouse. I’ve done the journey a few times before on a few different routes, and I’m pretty happy with this one.

It looks like buying the trip on a Lufthansa ticket is about 10k AED (2700 USD), and is about 15% more expensive through Etihad – 12k AED (3200 USD).

I assume I won’t be able to claim Etihad points if I buy it through Lufthansa. Or can I? Would I still get the chauffeur? – I live 10 minutes from the airport so this is not a deal-breaker. Am I missing something else?

    Thanks for your help!

I believe you’re correct that you won’t be able to earn Etihad miles on a ticket issued by LH. I checked out wheretocredit.com for a couple of different fare classes and didn’t see any options where you could credit miles to Etihad. Neither can you earn LH M&M on Etihad flights.

Thanks – In the past I have been able to claim Etihad miles on a LH flight, but the flight was sold by Etihad with an Etihad number. What I’m not sure about is whether the opposite is true – on an Etihad flight sold by LH with a LH flight number, can I claim the Etihad miles? I suspect I won’t know until I buy it…

I booked two nearly identical trips. A gave my Singapore Krisflyer number at the time of booking, but have only been given miles for the two short Lufthansa flights.

Apparently I can’t get KF miles or Etihad Guest miles for the AUH-FRA flights because it is a code share. Does this mean Lufthansa Miles and More is my only option?

The return (FRA-AUH) was great by the way; it was like the flight attendants were being paid by the champagne top-up!

I’m gonna guess M&M is likely your only option. If someone else knows better, please chime in!

So… Etihad Guest said I couldn’t claim the miles because (and I paraphrase) it wasn’t sold as an Etihad flight…

….and Lufthansa Miles and More said I couldn’t claim the miles because they didn’t operate it.

They can’t both be true, surely?!

However, I do now have both Singapore KF and Lufthansa M&M miles for the two short flights.

What are the first 3 digits of your ticket number and what was your fare class?

  8. Matt B Member

    220, and Business Class (Z)

Weirdly, they’re both correct. But here’s where you can credit it:

@MidSouth Skier Wait, what?! Who’s both correct? Etihad and Lufthansa – they can’t be credited to either?

  11. MidSouthSkier Community Ambassador

That’s correct according to the page I linked. Etihad is not listed at all and you can only get M&M credit if the flight was on one of these airlines: EW, 4U, DE, EN, JP, LG, LH, LO, LX, OS, OU, SN

    Strange but true!

@MidSouth Skier Well – thanks for your help. It looks like the miles would have been worth about 100 USD (8439 miles @1.2c) and the flights were 500 USD cheaper so LH was probably still the sensible choice. If I did this several times a year I wonder if it would be worth buying them through Etihad for the status – not going to happen this year anyway!
