I just found out that I must go to Lagos this July for business. I have never been and find myself with a rare feeling of trepidation. I normally enjoy chaotic cities; I love the pulsating energy of places like Jakarta and Cairo. But Lagos? Its absolutely horrendous reputation intimidates even me. Has anyone been? I’ve been told the contemporary art scene is really exciting and that does tempt me to add an extra day to the trip.

I had to fly through Lagos 4 years ago on my way from Johannesburg back to the US. I never stepped inside the city, but! the three hours that I had to spend in the airport made me go to great length nowadays to avoid connection through Lagos. So – good luck.
