AMEX PRG to Chase Sapphire Reserve

AMEX PRG to Chase Sapphire Reserve

  1. Gus New Member

    Hi,

I currently have the AMEX PRG and EDP. Love the EDP, but I’m considering dropping the PRG in favor of the new CSR because of the 3x on dining and travel, especially considering how broadly they define those categories.

    Before I do, couple questions:

    1. I’m obviously in the AMEX points program…does it make sense to diversify a little to the Chase program, especially since I’m based in Boston and don’t really have a loyalty to any airline (I’m silver Delta, but I don’t fly enough to hit Gold, and silver doesn’t seem like a reason to stay loyal to Delta in the long run).

    2. I know that AMEX just added a 5x on airfare for their Platinum. I want to take advantage of the sweet 100k bonus, which I can definitely hit 3 months, but, ultimately, should I wait to see if AMEX offers anything comparable to the CSR?

    3. I feel like I should diversify from just AMEX since it’s not accepted anywhere…should this impact my decision?

The $450 fee doesn’t really bother me because the way I look at it, with the $300 travel rebate, the fee is only $150 which is actually $45 less than the fee I’m paying for the PRG (I’m still in the first year so it’s currently waived, but still).

Anything else I should be considering? Thanks for the help in advance.

hi @Gus. If you have a sizeable chunk of MR points its not a bad thing to diversify a little to open up options. UR are a very useful currency to own.

Just be mindful that the 5x on airfare is currently a feature on the personal AmEx Plat but the 100k sign up is for the business Platinum. With that card you’ll get the 1.5MR for over 5k purchases and the 2cpp redemption value towards tickets on your designated airline and premium cabins.

The general consensus is that AmEx might add some features to the Platinum card but those should be retroactive to the cards you own. So if you qualify for the business AmEx and can hit the sign up bonus requirements, now is a great time to go. Other than a 150k targeted bonus I know of the 100k seems to be max you can get for a sign up offer.
