Amex Plat retention offer

Amex Plat retention offer

I called the Amex retention line today because my Platinum fee just hit. This was not just to get an offer but I was genuinely thinking of closing it.

Anyway, they gave me an offer of $300 statement credit or 30k points after $4k spend in the next 3 months. That seemed like a high spend threshold for that reward… Any thoughts/insights/other offers people have received? I saw on other sites people saying that received $500/50k for no spend whatsoever…

For context, I put around $10k of spend on the card per year.

Same for me except $300 was the only option offered. Offers can vary by external factors, personal spending history, banking relationships etc. They also change over time. It would be nice to get the better offers you found but there is not much you can do. You get what you get unfortunately.

Yeah I asked about any modifications or lowering the required spend, but he said he could only see the offer and not edit it. It is what it is, unfortunately. Better than nothing!

That’s a pretty good offer, in my opinion. Easiest way to earn 30k MR points, that’s for sure.

Calling Amex to inquire about the same is on my to-do list as well while here in self quarantine. What’s going to be hard for me is that level of spend to hit the bonus at this time… my business expenses are essentially zero, no travel obviously, no dining out, etc. It’s pretty much home utility bills and groceries for probably 60 days! Fingers crossed I get a low spend threshold offer

I’m right there with you. Quite literally the worst time to hit a spend threshold… Silver lining – if this is my biggest problem, then I’m doing alright 😉
