Amex Membership Rewards

Amex Membership Rewards

I’m looking to start collecting Amex membership Rewards Points. My plan is to get both the Premier Rewards Gold and Amex EveryDay cards.

If I cancel the Premier Gold after achieving the sign on bonus but before it’s 1st yr anniversary will I lose the 25,000 miles if they haven’t been transferred into a frequent flyer program?

Is a specific card required to keep open in order to pool Amex points?

    Thanks!

You won’t lose the points but I would keep the PRG for a year until the annual fee is due. Card issuers don’t like it when you collect the bonuses and cancel right away.

I don’t believe you have to keep a specific MR-earning card open to keep the points – but you do need to keep at least one of those types of cards open at all times.

I’d also go to cardmatch.com and see if you’re eligible for more than a 25K signup bonus. Remember, Amex bonuses are now once per lifetime so if you can, you may want to wait until there’s a better offer. In fact, the Amex Gold Business card is offering 50K so if you have a business (selling on eBay, for example) you’d be better off with that one.

Update: corrected the site name to cardmatch.com

Yes, I’d definitely wait for a better offer on the Gold card. If you have multiple cards just make sure that they are associated with the same MR number (should happen automatically but doesn’t hurt to check). If they are in the same account then as long as one MR card is open the points will be fine.

Is it possible for me to funnel my sign on bonus into another person’s MR account?

No. But if they are an authorized user on your account you can send your points to their frequent flyer account.
