AmEx Lounge and Standby

AmEx Lounge and Standby

I didnt see this posted yet…
Has anyone run into not being able to enter the Centurian lounge due to not having a seat assignment? I travel frequently as a non-rev registered companion and have the American Express Platinum card, as is the nature of standby travel I rarely have a seat assignment prior to just before departure. It seems you can not enter the lounge without a seat assignment, a standby pass does not allow entry. I asked the lounge agent and she advised its a day of departure lounge and a seat is required. The lounges are past security, which requires a ticket for the most part. Many revenue passengers also elect not to pay for a seat and wait for gate assignment, which also prevents them from using the lounge. Not being an airline employee I dont have the option of printing a boarding pass between psudo cities. Has anyone found a way around this? This seems like a pretty trivial rule for this card.

I agree it’s a bit strange. You could always book a full fare ticket and check in on your phone and then cancel it if you really want to get into the lounge.
