American Airlines Platinum
. I joined a contest at American Airlines and was lucky enough to be granted platinum status until May 25th. However, it came with the following note to extend my status: Extend your status through January 2019 Earn 12,500 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) and 2,000 Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs) before May 25, 2018, on American or other eligible airlines.*
While I travel I don’t fly enough to maintain this status and was wondering any tricks to extend this status? Also, to follow up my 4 children and my wife and I are flying from Lisbon to Philadelphia and then Chicago on June 3 on American Airlines. I used British Airways miles (great deal) and cash combination for this flight and with my platinum status was able to upgrade all six of us to economy plus for free ($147 value per person). Since my status will expire on May 25 is there a chance American would make me pay for the seats or relocate us in the plane to regular economy. Guessing they wouldn’t do that but wanted to check. Thanks and help is appreciated. Bill.
I’ve never been in the situation, but I can’t imagine AA would come back and try to ask you to pay. Just make sure any changes you need to make to the reservation and seats, you don’t do in that interim between May 25th and June 3rd.
