Acquiring AA Points

Acquiring AA Points

  1. Anonymous Guest

We are a family of 5 and recently traveled to Hawaii using AA points I had acquired with Citi card bonuses from myself and my husband. (took us 2 years to acquire those) We want to build that back up to visit Hawaii again and family in Australia.
I am tracking when I open and close accounts and always make sure it’s 25 months+ so we get credit for bonuses. But it appears the only cards for AA points are the Citi AAdvantage ones (biz and regular) and Barclaycard. How else can we acquire AA points?
Is there another strategy to getting points and transferring to AA?

The Marriott and SPG cards will allow you to earn those currencies and then transfer points at a ratio of 3 hotel = 1 AA mile. Sounds like a not-so-good deal but it really matches what SPG offers right now (1 SPG = 3 Marriott). Plus when you transfer 60K points (which becomes 20K miles) at one time Marriott/SPG will give you a bonus 5K miles so your 60K points ends up as 25K miles.
