AAdvantage Gold Challenge
Hi Ben!
Long time reader first time question. Recently relocated to CLT from Houston. Was A List preferred on SWA for years but in CLT AA runs the show and SWA can no longer meet my needs out of CLT. Have significant business and personal travel this year and in speaking with AA, I can pay a $120 fee for a 90 day challenge (should have no problem achieving the goal in 90 days) or pay $300 fee and receive immediate gold status during the challenge period.
Without the challenge, it may take me a year to obtain the Gold status although I am sure I would.
Thoughts?

I would pay the $120 and just earn the Gold via the challenge. I don’t think it is worth paying the additional $ for immediate Gold. Gold is just not worth it in my opinion. Unless you regularly check bags and will avoid the checked bag fees.
I will add a +1 to what OCTinPHL has said already – if you know you can meet the challenge, I would pay the $120. I say that as someone who is a million miler gold with AA (currently PLT).
