AA or Cathay Miles?
I am based in Asia, and have both the Citi AAdvantage card and the Cathay Pacific Amex. Which card does it make sense to use more frequently? I’m hoping to accumulate points to use for upgrades on trips back to the U.S., and am not certain whether I should be focused on getting AA or Cathay points as I’m not sure how to value them. Thanks for any help.
Between AA and CX, elite status on one airline wont get you upgrades on the other. You cant use one airline’s miles to upgrade on the other carrier either. If your most important reason for getting status is being upgraded, I would pick the program for the airline you fly most.
For award travel, AA has a pretty good program but I dont know much about Cathay’s aside from it being distance based. However, you can wait list for CX flights using their own program and I believe those clear before space is made available to partners when close to departure.
