AA First vs. Cathay First

AA First vs. Cathay First

  1. Anonymous Guest

Hi all! I’m optimistically booking future travel and hoping it will come to pass. I’m looking to use AA miles and would love to fly back to the US in first from Hong Kong. It looks like my two options are:

    Cathay Pacific (110k)
    American (65k)

As you can see, American’s first class fares on my dates are discounted. I know Cathay is considered a much better first class product, but with this discount, does AA become a no-brainer?

Just curious for others’ views, thanks!

That completely depends on how many miles you have and how important having X amount of miles left over is. If you have 300K+ miles its a no brainer to go CX. If you have 120K miles then you could argue doing AA so you have the ability to use miles on an entire trip in the future. My AA F trip to Asia was supposed to leave 3 days ago.. If not for Corona I could have personally told you if it was as bad as Ben’s last review. No doubt you are getting a WAY better experience on CX. If you go wth CX take an “A” seat so its just you and 1 other person.

+1 to Mikewarren1000. It all depends on how many miles you have, and how much you value them. If the mileage allows (and the heart), CX is the hands-down winner in my book. If you are mileage limited, AA in F may not be the *best* in the world, but it certainly isnt a *bad* way to travel. Tl;dr. Short answer – would prefer CX if I could, but wouldnt hesitate for AA at that price otherwise.

This is a no-brainer. The other way around. If you have the miles, it is CX all the way. 65k for AA may seem like a great deal, and it is when you compare AA F to AA J. But CX F is much, much better than AA. Worth double the amount of miles. Just read Lucky’s reviews. (FWIW, I’ve had much better service in AA F from HKG than Lucky’s experience, and even then AA F is really just a decent J experience.)
