AA – chance of equipment change for January flight

AA – chance of equipment change for January flight

I realize that anything is possible when it comes to AA, but what are the chances of an equipment change for a flight in January?

I’m looking at AA693 from HNL to PHX. On my desired date, Jan 23, it’s showing an A330. However, the same flight on Thursdays through October is on a 752. Early in November it disappears for a couple weeks, then returns and changes to a 32Q. The flight disappears again for a couple weeks in December, returning the 3rd Thursday on an A330.

The whole point in booking this flight is for the lay-flat Business class seats. At what point is it “reasonable” to think that the equipment assignment might be set?

I miss the days of the downloadable timetable where you had a better idea of how long the fight schedule was good for.

    Thank you.

I’d say you have a better than 75% chance the flight keeps a flat bed plane. But that is just my opinion. AA tends to swap out a 333 and 332 int’l or domestic, or replace a 332 with a 767 domestically. Not always. But generally if AA is selling a flat-bed business seat domestically, it tries to keep it. Doesn’t always work. But if it changes you should be able to get switched to a different flight that does have flat-beds, but the schedule may not work for you.

They do have a widebody schedule if you know where to look:

It is only for a two month period, though it used to be for longer (at least a quarter, maybe even six months) .

Thank you for the feedback and the link. Maybe I’ll wait a bit longer to see the next schedule revision through December, or maybe just until the fare gets near my limit.

AA also allows you to cancel for an equipment change so keep that in mind if that’s an option.

Oh that’s awesome – I had no idea. I ended up booking a couple days ago as inventory was starting to get low. I’ll keep this in mind if anything changes. Thank you!
