AA awards – one

AA awards – one

    Hi Lucky,

I was trying to book a flight from SIN to DFW and would like to fly via Cathay business using AA miles. There were seats from SIN to HKG and HKG to LAX but there is not business Milesavver seat available from LAX to DFW on AA planes. The agent said my options are either to book a separate main cabin anytime award (which is an additional 20K miles on top of the 70K mile) or buy a one way ticket. Does this sound right? Are there other options available?

Does this means I can only fly with oneworld partners (including domestic transfers) in order to use the oneworld award chart?

Thank so much for your help!
    Michelle

Welcome @Mich – unfortunately the agent is correct. I’m in the same boat for a flight next year – flying CX out of SFO but currently no way to get to SFO on a saver award ticket.

I will say that if your flight dates just opened up, it’s very possible domestic space will open up within the next few days. Put the award on hold and see what opens up. I was able to do that very thing for a friend of mine who’ll be coming back from China on CX. Originally we were only able to get her back as far as Chicago but we put the flight on hold and 2 days later award space from Chicago to her home airport opened up.

@Mich–also take a look at connecting options. You might be able to find AA or Alaska flights at the saver level and add them to the CX award for now. If/when space opens on the direct flight you can switch for free under AA rules.

@MidSouth Skier and @Gaurav, thanks for the suggestions. Currently I do have the flight on hold. Hopfully saver level seats will be available. Or adding another connection for the saver level award and try to switch later.

    Thanks again!
