AA award ticket on Qatar

AA award ticket on Qatar

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Hi Lucky,

In light of Citi and Barclays ending 10% miles back on AA award tickets on 15th May, I am planning the below for saving some miles.
I anyways have family travel to India planned for summer of 2020 for my wife and two kids and planning to book them flights on Qatar by using 120k (40k * 3).
I know I can only book award ticket probably only by March 2020 and when the tickets for May get open, I am planning to call AA and re-schedule my trip for free ( No change in origin and destination and also the partner airline.

By this I can save 10k refund miles and in worst case, I will lose only $200 ( 150+25+25) cancellation / redeposit fee incase I have change in plans.

Would you suggest me doing this as I am also aware that Qatar might leave Onewolrd and might not be able to book them with AA miles.

In the past, when I’ve made changes to my award itinerary booked with AA, I see the miles refunded and then taken out again for the change. Same goes with the 10% miles back. That may happen in this case as well and you may lose the 10k when you make the change.
