AA award from Europe to Africa via Doha?

AA award from Europe to Africa via Doha?

  1. Anonymous Guest

Trying to get from Europe to Kilimanjaro and the only Oneworld route is through Doha. It looks like there is availability but since there hasn’t been a routing exception posted on AA’s site, not sure if I’ll be booking one or two awards. Does anyone have experience with this before I play agent roulette? Thanks!

Yes, there is an exception allowing connections in Doha for travel between North America and Africa. You may connect in Doha only when flying Qatar to and from Doha, and may not connect in Europe.

American doesn’t publish their routing exceptions, but we have a chart here: http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2015/04/12/how-to-redeem-american-aadvantage-miles/

Understand that there’s an exception when coming from the States, but I’ll be departing from Europe- not sure that’s allowed? Thanks in advance for your help Tiffany!

Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t read closely enough and missed the origin.

No exception, so will price as two awards, I believe. Very silly, considering the route maps and options!

I wonder if calling AA and playing roulette as you say might get an exception on this. Given the fact from NA you can go through Europe and Doha to South Africa as @Tiffany says its a silly rule not to allow it. Showing them it’s allowed from a farther origin might get it allowed, especially since QR is the only realistic choice as everything else goes south to JNB/CPT.

Nah, they won’t be able to do it based on how AA validates pricing. Agents can only make exceptions when the computer mis-prices, not when the tables themselves are illogical.
