AA award change economy to business
I am flying DEL-AUH-JFK on an AA award and right now only DEL-AUH is open in business–can I book both legs in coach for now, and then if space opens up in business a few days before travel, can I switch to business without paying a fee?
Thanks
Yes, you’ll just pay the difference in miles.
Well, if you book DEL-AUH-JFK where DEL-AUH is J and AUH-JFK is Y, you’ll be charged for business class on the entire award – 70k miles. When AUH-JFK opens up, just call AA and put you into J. There shouldn’t be any fees or additional miles necessary.
As an alternative, have you looked at space for QR DEL-DOH-JFK and CX DEL-HKG-JFK/EWR? Those are also priced at 70k for the award. Another option is CX DEL-HKG and then AA HKG-LAX/DFW-JFK
@David W, while the principle is sound I wouldn’t book J the whole way now. DEL-AUH in J is not worth paying 70k for if the longer leg doesn’t clear.
