787-8 184 seat or 777-300 ER business class

Flying to Tokyo. Trying to decide whic hANA plane to fly. 787-8 V4 184 seats or the 777-300 ER. Plan on business class seats. Just trying to figure out my departing airports. 787-8 out of Seattle or 777-300 out of ORD. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Where are you based out of? Seattle to Tokyo is a little over 3 hours shorter in the air than Chicago. That’d be the deciding factor for me, since both seats are direct aisle access and lie-flat.

Also, if you are flying after March, then your only option out of Seattle is Haneda – if that matters.

Thanks. That makes sense. Originating out of PHX. Trying to decide which city to fly into if I use Virgin Atlantic for points vs United. Seeing if saving 140k points is worth the extra costs of flights to and from departing cities.plus maybe a hotel night. Also since it will be a 2 week trip, concerned about inconvenience of picking up checked luggage and going through security. Little concerned about risk of missing connections going and coming if booking two separate tickets. It will be both my wife and me.

Saving 140K points for me would be a no-brainer.

To clarify – you will be buying a separate ticket from Phoenix to either Chicago or Seattle? That’s where your concern about checked luggage, missed connections, etc. comes into play? It’s been a while, but I feel like connecting at Seattle is much more pleasant than O’Hare…

Thanks for the help. Booked RT on ANA through Seattle through Virgin Atlantic. You are correct, we did have to buy a separate ticket from PHX to SEA, so that was the concern. Overcame my concern (will fly in a day prior to flying to Tokyo and leaving day after arrival into Seattle. Thanks again for your help.
