    I requested a status match on AirBerlin to my United Premier Platinum. It was approved this morning. I have no OneWorld Status and very, very rarely fly OneWorld; however, we took advantage of the BA Business Class sale last fall. I am hoping to use this new AirBerln gold status to snag FREE advance seat assignments on our LAX-LHR-LAX flights. How is the best way to do this? And once are ready to fly, is it better to credit mileage earning to BA or AA? (No status, but have a stash of miles in both programs.) When do I switch FF numbers from AirBerlin to AA/BA? Thanks so much! I feel like a fish out of water when switching airline alliances!

    To attach your Air Berlin number you could call BA or use one of the online tools through Royal Jordanian or Finnair. Here is a primer for RJ:
