Missed challenge by 200 miles because i flew on a partner airline – is there any way to fix this

    Hey Ben,

I’m a huge fan of OMAAT and would love your advice on a little conundrum I’ve found myself in.

I registered for a platinum challenge with AA in May of this year (I’ve been a lifelong Star Alliance guy, but recently moved to Boston and saw better availability on AA).

In planning out my trips I tried to hit the 12,500 limit with a business class flight to Cancun and then a round trip to seattle. I had a few small flights scattered through the three months, but fully expected to hit at least 13,000-14,000 (i’m sure small peanuts for you!).

Turns out that my return flight flight from Seattle was on Alaska metal, and actually ticketed through them (even though i purchased the flight through American). As a result, I end up short by about 1,500 miles (which i’ll be making up in the next 2 weeks).

I called American and a fairly rude supervisor told me that they’d do absolutely nothing to give me a chance to extend the challenge. Any advice here? Definitely leaning against flying AA in the future, but would love to see if you have any thoughts on how i might qualify and stick with them.

    Thanks!
    Amit
