Krisflyer or Mileage plus

Krisflyer or Mileage plus

  1. Laurel E New Member

    Hello,

I am currently living in Singapore and have Krisflyer Gold Status, but I am moving to the USA in a few weeks. I will be living in a location where United is dominate. I have a Mileage Plus account as well and have emailed them to see if they will honor the Gold Status so that I can book through United and still have the Gold status amenities (long shot). As expected, they have informed me this is not possible and I need to use my Krisflyer number when booking United flights if I want to use the benefits. My question is: Once I am back in the USA, should I book the flights on United using Krisflyer or start to accrue on United Mileage Plus to hopefully get Gold or Premier 1K within a year?

    Thanks for your help!

If your goal is to obtain status with United, you should start crediting flights to them, maybe even before you arrive in the US. Attach your SQ Krisflyer number to bookings so you get your elite benefits but ask the gate agent to change to your UA MileagePlus number.

Have you looked up UA’s elite qualifying rules? It’s a bit different from Krisflyer. Also note that your status with SQ puts you in Star Gold, meaning domestic US lounge access, even at United Clubs. With United status, i dont think you get lounge access unless you’re traveling on an international itinerary

Also, when you move to the US do not update your Mileage Plus address.
Non – US residents are exempt from the PQD factor for elite status qualification.
