Cathay Mistake Fare Earns AA Gold Elite Status?
According to ITA Matrix, the Cathay flight from JFK-HKG-HAN is 17,162 miles round trip. According to AA, this flight should earn 1.5 EQM/mile in First/Business, which is 25,743 miles. Does that mean that the NYE Special Fare from last night should alone qualify you for Gold status? Perhaps I’m missing something here, so just wanted to verify. Thanks!
You also need to satisfy the Elite Qualifying Dollar (EQD) requirement which earns at 25% – so $4,290. So yes, should be enough for Gold.
You can also credit to AS which would net 225% base miles flown – 38,615 in your case. You wouldn’t get AS status as you need 25,000 base miles flown on partner airlines to get MVP, but AS has some great redemption opportunities.
