Beware of the elite night credits from Marriott’s Annual Choice Benefit

Beware of the elite night credits from Marriott’s Annual Choice Benefit

As a Marriott Platinum Premier member, I received an email from Marriott in early Feb 2019 asking me to select our Annual Choice Benefit for Platinum and Plat Premier. The benefits include 5 Elite Night Credits, suite upgrades and others. We chose the 5 Elite Night Credits for both Platinum and Plat Premier benefits, which equals to 10 nights. I reached out to Marriott asking when the nights will be credited since the email stated that the nights will be credited in 48 hours and it has been 8 days. The representative informed me that the nights were applied to 2018 instead of 2019. No where in the email or the website indicated that these nights will be for 2018. The representative stated that it is noted in the terms and condition, not in the email or on the webpage, not even in the fine print of the website. For a simple benefit selection, how many people read the terms and conditions? The representative also mentioned that the other benefits are for 2019. If that is the case, why is the email or website more clear?

Hi zzz, I feel your frustration and agree that Marriott could be more clear. However, I’m also Platinum Premier. I qualified on 75 nights in the fall, and not once did I think I could wait to select my choice benefit until 2019 so that the credit nights would post for 2019. To me, that would be a pretty obvious way to game the system, which is why I just naturally assumed the credits would hit 2018 (the year you qualify).

Just my two cents… curious what others think though, as well.
