AA Same-Day Change
I am a (new) AA EXP. I’ll be flying BNA-CLT-GRR but would like to change to a later flight that would be BNA-ORD-GRR. I have already been upgraded on the BNA-CLT segment. BNA-ORD is sold out in main cabin, but has availability in first class. The agent I spoke with said there has to be availability in main cabin to move me to before I can be upgraded to first class. It seems like an illogical technicality, since I would be getting the same first class seat either way. Has anyone had any experience with a scenario like this?
Have you tried calling again? Might be worth a couple of calls. I’m not familiar with AA upgrades so not sure what the rationale is… Maybe there are other EXPs on the ORD flight who would be upgraded on the ORD flight first?
The agent is right (or at least half right)– in order for the system to process it you generally have to have availability in the same fare class, and then they add you to the upgrade list, and then you clear again.
That being said, if you call again you may find someone who can override “the process”.
