Are you based in Mumbai? I’m unsure of the credit card and points opportunities there but this post is a good one to read and get some assistance in picking a credit card. http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2015/07/30/choose-credit-card-outside-us/

If you can apply for US credit cards (meaning you have a US SSN) then there are various options for you – Chase, CitiBank and Amex all have cards with transferable points currencies that can get you award flights in business class.

As for cheap fares, you can use Google Flights to find fares across different dates. Your best options are probably going to be Emirates, Qatar or Etihad. Cathay and Singapore Airlines also fly to JNB.

You can also buy points when they are selling it at a discount – AA’s program will let you book awards for travel on QR, EY and CX.
