Just moved in together – which CCs?

Just moved in together – which CCs?

My girlfriend and I live together, and we’re trying to figure out which credit cards to use, as we’re beginning to combine our finances. Here are our current cards:

    Me
    – Chase Sapphire Reserve
    – Chase United Explorer (mainly used to maintain MileagePlus status with PQD waiver)
    – Capital One Quiksilver

    Her
    – Chase Sapphire Preferred
    – Chase Freedom
    – Capital One Quiksilver

As you can see, there’s a lot of overlap.

She’s thinking of replacing the CSP with an Amex Platinum because she’s been targeted for the 100k offer. We spend a lot on travel, dining out, and some on groceries and usual other items. Total CC spend is probably $50k-$75k (plus we pay rent and a few other things using Plastiq or similar services on the Chase United Explorer card for an additional $25k in spend)

    Thoughts?

The Quicksilver is worth keeping if you’ve had it for a long time, but I wouldnt put spend on it.

How long has she has the CSP? If it’s been more than 2 years, I recommend downgrading that to a Freedom Unlimited and then aply for the Reserve. Net additional annual fee is really just $55, compared to the Preferred. You’d each get $300 in travel credits per year.

I recommend you get a Freedom card as well, if you think you can both maximize the 5x bonus each quarter.

The Amex Plat is definitely worth considering with a 100k offer. The $200 airline credit can be useful (I use it to purchase AA gift cards) plus the $200 Uber credits can be used with UberEats also. She may eventually want to consider the Amex Everyday or Everyday preferred for the bonus on groceries.
