Can I open a Southwest Card, but have it tie to someone else’s Rapid Rewards account?

Can I open a Southwest Card, but have it tie to someone else’s Rapid Rewards account?

Sounds odd, I know. Open a card to get someone else miles. But there is a reason. My wife opened the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Southwest Plus cards this month. The plan was to then open the Southwest Business Card so that she could get the companion pass as soon as possible. We did not realize that 5/24 also meant 2/90 days.

What is an option is that I could open the business card, as I haven’t opened a card in three months, and well shy of 5/24. But I would like the bonus miles to credit to her rapid reward so that she can get the companion pass.

So that’s my question. Can I open the card under my name, but have all the miles go to her rapid reward account, enabling her to get companion pass?

Thank you in advance all great internet.

    Hi @Rick239, and welcome!

The above comments are right — you wouldn’t be able to open an account with her number.

So I would just wait it out, the 50k bonus seems to be available about 7 months of the year, so once she’s eligible she can apply. You can take advantage of other offers in the meantime!
