Can I cancel an amex Platinum I got a year ago without punishment?
I got a platinum card a little under a year ago, and saw that amex just turned up their anti churning language.
Is it safe to cancel despite the new restrictions? I have another MR card so I wouldn’t expect the points to disappear…
Yes, you can cancel it. I think the new language was targeted more towards people who get a card, earn the bonus and then immediately cancel it. I’d wait until you get the statement with the annual fee then you could even call Amex to see if they’d waive it (unlikely) or give you bonus points or something for keeping it open. If you don’t like any of their offers you could then cancel it.
