Amex PRG/Platinum

Amex PRG/Platinum

    Hi Ben,

Some history: I started with the Amex Blue cash card and ugpraded to the Gold/PRG many years ago. I did not receive whatever advertised bonus was at the time. 2 days ago, I was offered 50k points on $5k spend for upgrading to the Platinum and I went for it.

I called Amex just now inquiring about whether I’d get a bonus if I were to reapply for the PRG and was told no. He specifically said something about AMEX catching up to people playing the points game and changing the terms to make it harder. I was told its one bonus per charge card, regardless of type and that Amex sees the PRG and Platinum as in the same family. He did tell me that I could apply for the business PRG where the current offer is 75k points for $10k spend OR to wait 15 months after I cancelled the Platinum.

Do you have any information on this?

    Thanks!
    David

In the UK at least (I know this won’t be helpful to you specifically), Amex appears to have given up on cracking down on ‘churners,’ with this point in the T&Cs:

All introductory offers are subject to change, can be withdrawn at any time and are not available if you currently hold or have held any other Membership Rewards enrolled American Express Cards in the past 6 months.
