Who has the best rates to redeem for Vietnam Airlines Y or J?

Who has the best rates to redeem for Vietnam Airlines Y or J?

    Hi everyone,

Who has the best rates to redeem for Vietnam Airlines award seats in Y or J? It’ll be a short trip between Hanoi and Siem Reap, but since Vietnam Airlines has a monopoly on the route, the Y fares are pretty high at $217 one-way. So I’m looking at redeeming an award and maybe splurging for J — even though it’s a short flight (1hr 40min) the Y seats look really tiny. 🙂

As per my other post, I can’t see any availability on Delta. FlyingBlue wants 10K for Y or 25K for J, plus about $50 in fees. Vietnam’s own chart looks bad at 20K for Y and 40K for J (don’t know about fees), and Korean’s chart (halving the round-trip rate, even though I know you can’t get a one-way award) would be 20K for Y and 30K for J (again, don’t know about fees).

So out of that bunch, FlyingBlue seems the best, and I’d have to transfer in with SPG. Sucks that I’ll have to wait so long for my dates to get within FlyingBlue’s insane 10-month window.

Are there any other programs that would be better to redeem from? It’d be a perfect flight for a distance-based award, but I don’t think any SkyTeam airlines have those, right? Any program better than FlyingBlue (and maybe Delta, but who knows what their rate would be)?

    Thanks!

    Todd

Based on the last available charts, DL would charge 22.5/40k. Do you have any MR or TY points? Those should go to FB pretty seamlessly…
