switching from AAdvantage to Alaska Mileage Plan
Hi Lucky,
I live/work remotely in Santiago, Chile with my husband but am from/have family in Fairbanks, Alaska. I travel from SA to the US/Alaska about 5 to 6 times a year, usually mid-week on cheap fares . I’ve been able to get AA ExecPlat status and have been loving it until the changes this year. I have the AA Exec Black card with Admiral Club access so I should be able to keep club access. I have been thinking of switching mid-year to Alaska Mileage Plan so I can continue earning miles based on distance, because revenue based won’t get me anywhere. Besides losing the SWUs (only 4 now, so…) and complimentary upgrades am I missing out on anything else? I feel like with Alaska Airlines I can take advantage of cheap tickets on Delta / Aeromexico which I couldn’t before. It should be easy to get MVPGold75k (it will take me 90,000 to get) and i’ll be earning 125% on all flights right?? What would you recommend?
Davin, doesn’t sound like you’re missing much. Just make sure to check how many miles your cheap fare class would earn on Alaska before you decide.
Don’t forget that Alaska will match your AA status to get a flying start so to speak.
