Skipping AA award connecting Leg

Skipping AA award connecting Leg

I am sure similar questions have been asked (more than likely with revenue tickets); however, I am looking to book an AA first class ticket from LHR – DFW. AA charges an absurd amount of miles for the non-stop flight and 65K miles for a flight via Miami. However, if I put LHR – IAH, the flight then routes via DFW for the same 65K promo price. If I skip the DFW – IAH leg, what will happen? I do not have to worry about checked bags being sent to IAH as I will have to collect them at DFW anyways after the international flight. Plus, the DFW – IAH leg would not be until the following day. Is it better to just miss the flight and say nothing or call after the first leg and cancel?
