Singapore Airlines Fuel Surcharges

Singapore Airlines Fuel Surcharges

I knew that SQ tacked on fuel surcharges, but when I recently tried to book an itinerary with LH first class the fuel surcharge just for the LH segment was $800. Is this normal? Or is something off?

Yes, LH is notorious for high fuel surcharges which are also the bane of their FF program. If you want to double check you could try pricing a cash ticket on ITA matrix to see the fare breakdown.

FWIW I’ve seen similar issues trying to book award flights with SQ. An itinerary that showed about $75 in fees on the Aeroplan site included about $300 in fees when I called SQ to book.

Aeroplan doesnt pass on fuel surcharges for a handful of airlines whereas SQ passes them along for all partner airlines i think. They no longer pass fuel surcharges along for their own flights though. And United doesnt pass on any fuel surcharges on any airline.
