Refund for tickets purchased

Refund for tickets purchased

This past winter we booked 8 tickets on Delta to Tel Aviv for August.

I purchased the tickets with the two Barclay cards my husband and I had, and then redeemed close to 500,000 points (including the 5% extra they give you for redeeming the points)

How would you recommend we get properly refunded for the tickets without taking a significant loss.

Should we get a Delta credit or should we try to get a refund from Delta. (I heard they are not issuing refunds, is that true?)
If we do get a refund, can Delta send us the money, or does it go back to our Barclay card?
If it goes back to our card, now that our cards are downgraded, what would be the best way to recoup the losses and potentially use them again (we got a $250 travel credit on one card as part of the 5% bonus when redeeming points).

We did book through an agent who said that his consolidator will issue us a refund to the original payment method less $25 a ticket per person.

I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts on how we can resolve this.

If the flight was cancelled, you should be able to get a refund. If the flight is operating and you just can’t/don’t want to travel due to covid, you are probably stuck with a credit. I’m not entirely sure what Delta flights are operating, but I remember United is still operating their flights to Israel.

You booked everything through an agent though? I think $25/person is more than fair to be able to walk away from your trip and have everything refunded. How did the agent say the refund would be processed?

I’m not very well versed in what happens when a refund is issued to a card that is closed/downgraded though. Maybe someone else can chime in there?
