Redeem business or economy and pay upgrade?
Here is my case: I and my partner have two mileageplus account with 30,000 and 180,000 miles in them respectively. I’d like to book a flight from YUL to CDG in August on Air Canada in business class.
Option 1: redeem economy with 30,000 miles and have Last Minute Upgrade (LMU). According to my experience this will take around 900 CAD (700USD), but maybe I dont have a desired window seat or even the upgrade option is not available at last minute.
Option 2: redeem Business with 70,000 miles directly, go ahead and choose the seat I prefer now.
So basically, it is a question of 700 USD or 40000 united miles. But I do think 70,000 miles for a 7 hour one-way business class seat is absolutely a rob. Which option do you guys think I should have? Thanks!
@Jasper Chang my understanding is that UA upgrades have been tough to clear especially if you don’t have status. If you definitely want J, I would book it outright.
