Possible to include economy leg on AA 1st award?
I’m holding a ticket on Cathay ORD to HKG, but I’m going to be getting up early and sitting at ORD for 6 hours to make it work. There is a better flight that gives me two hours of my life back, but the entire plane is economy, so no business/first milesaaver awards are available, though economy milesaaver is.
Is there any recourse to get an agent to add me to the economy flight? First call I was shut down, not sure if it is worth another attempt.
That should not be a problem. I, too, only have RJ service from some airports on AA and it’s never been an issue. Plus, as long as your origin & destination remain the same, AA should process the change for free. I’d definitely call back.
On with them now
Got the no again, they can do it but want to charge an Economy Anytime(milesaaver disappeard since last night) for the first leg on top of the 67,500 miles for the rest of the itinerary.
@Bourbon That’s tough luck, so frustrating when space disappears between checking and calling. I would keep an eye on it, sometimes it will show up again.
I think even without the award space they don’t like what I am trying to do. Even last night they wanted me to pay an economy milesaaver award for the SDF-ORD leg and then the First milesaaver for ORD-HKG.
Just stinks that the economy flight is essentially invisible to the First or Business redemption.
@Tiffany can you think of why they’re giving him a hard time about this?
You can’t mix AAnytime and SAAver — those will always price as two awards.
But you can absolutely add a saver economy segment to a saver or partner premium cabin award. Tell the agent that you are “accepting a voluntary downgrade” and ask them to have the rates desk price the itinerary manually. It should price as a single award.
Super annoying, but keep trying!
I should have posted this days ago! Only hope now is that a saaver seat comes open, though chances are slim.
