MSP to EDI (or GLA) in June – Chase Points, Cash or Both?
Hi all,
I’m planning a week long trip for two to Edinburgh from 13-19 June. Are there any opinions out there regarding the best way to get from Minneapolis to Edinburgh (or Glasgow) with Chase points? Or is it just better to buy the tickets for cash?
Using my Chase points to get Virgin miles seems the most obvious since MSP is a Delta hub, but I’d really like to avoid their exorbitant surcharges. Flying Blue seems to be too costly in terms of points, and I can’t find anywhere on the Avios airlines that will tell me how much it will be to fly from MSP to EDI with all of the necessary connections in between.
Any advice is much appreciated.

Are you aiming for economy or business class?

Business would be preferable, but economy seems more likely to me.
Well Chase points could be redeemed on United – that’d be 30,000 each way in economy per person, or 60,000 each way in business. 70,000 if you had to fly a partner. But United would probably be best, since any of their partners you’d have to fly to mainland Europe and connect.
Avios would be tough because they charge based on distance and segments, which would add up quick.
You could also transfer to Krisflyer (Singapore airlines), and fly any Star Alliance carrier. That’d be 27,500 each way in economy.
Personally, I’d aim for United. If you find availability, it’s a quick flight from MSP to New York, then direct to Scotland.
Good luck!
