Maximizing my Asia-Europe F award – Help!!

Maximizing my Asia-Europe F award – Help!!

    Hi Lucky/OMAAT friends,

I need to take a one way from Tokyo to Barcelona this summer and since first class redemptions are going through the roof I figured I’d get creative with my routing…here’s the routing I came up with

    HND-HKG-BKK-DOH-MAD-BCN

The flight will be long but we really trying to experience Cathay and Qatar F. I currently have the itinerary on hold but the rep calculated it at 75K miles per person! Per the award chart it should be 70K miles p/p. The award is currently being priced as 2 ways and it should be one way since per Lucky’s AA routing rules you can route through Doha when traveling from Asia to Europe. Has anyone come across this before? I have until tomorrow at midnight to book my trip and only have 145K miles. Is it worth me keep dialing to try to get a rep that will do it? Or is this just not doable and I’ll have to buy extra miles to book it?

That’s correct, unfortunately. You can transit Asia 2 (HKG, BKK) or Doha (on Qatar flights only). You basically get one third-region exception, and in your example routing you have a fourth region.

So if it’s really important to get both Cathay on Qatar on this award, you’ll have to buy the additional miles. Fortunately you don’t need many more!
