Maximizing Mileage for RTW
I have about 90k miles with each legacy carrier in the US (those being UA, DL and AA), and I am planning on going from the US to Asia, then from Asia to Europe, and finally traveling from Europe to the US. I am planning on using miles only on the intercontinental sectors (e.g. Asia to Europe etc.).
I am wondering which are the best alliances by extension of the carriers mentioned above for each sector. Additionally I want to attempt to fly the 747 as much as possible given their current status.
Thanks!
@Julian, that’s a very open ended question as the possible combinations are quite vast. Almost all the alliances have some presence each of those world areas so in some ways it might come down to the specific countries you want to visit, for e.g. Thai awards from BKK vs CX awards from HKG. Do you have a better idea of your itinerary?
In general it might be best to try to use your DL miles for your US-Asia leg since DL does not pass on fuel surcharges on ex-US awards but will do so for one-way travel originating outside the US.
