KrisFlyer miles to Middle East
Looking at flying to Israel for a few days (then on to Maldives using TBD points). From what I can tell Krisflyer is the best points option at 57.5k each way in J on StarAlliance (have 95k MR, 45k SPG, and about 10k Citi) and can fly Turkish there. I also looked at Flyingblue at 62.5k but the program seems a lot more complicated to figure out and book.
1. Is this the best option?
2. There are no fuel surcharges if we fly Turkish from what I can tell, correct? But surcharges on other StarAlliance airlines?
Hi @Liz
Sounds like you’re on the right track, and SQ makes sense given how diversified your points are.
It might make sense to look at booking to IST, having a stopover, and then continuing on to MLE on the KrisFlyer award. A round-trip from Istanbul to Tel Aviv might be more reasonable, and keep your costs down across the board.
TK has surcharges but reasonable, about $175USD for that flight
Thanks Tiffany and Mark! I didn’t look into a stopover because to MLE would be 97.5k Krisflyer one way (on Star Alliance) and we don’t have enough points for that. I figured we’d burn some Avios or something to get from Tel Aviv to MLE even though it would require two stops, or book a paid fare, position to Instanbul – who knows, we’ll see on that front! We’re using AA to get back from Maldives at 70k each in J on Qatar or Cathay.
