I know from [URL]http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2015/10/28/best-award-ticket-change-fees/[/URL] that you can change dates/routing etc on partner awards for $20.

Can I make a date change during a long stopover after I have already flown the first segment? or is this limited to before travel commences?

[USER=1468]@JeffLAX[/USER] — I’m actually not sure, but let me ask around. You would almost definitely pay a higher fee (I would assume the “within 24 hours of departure” would apply), but if you’re just changing date and time that might be okay.

So I went ahead and booked my award of SJO-PTY-LAX-KON-LAX-PTY-SJO. Stopovers at PTY and LAX on the outbound. The agent I got was pretty competent and found the flights that I wanted and found searching united.com. She said no changes after the first leg, so I need to firm up the dates my bonus $100 hawaii trip pretty quickly before I my SJO/PTY trip in March.
