JAL and cx flight availability

JAL and cx flight availability

  1. Anonymous Guest

I am trying to book an award flight from Ord to tpe. I have never flown j or f class so this seems like a good opportunity. I have enough points to go business in one and first in other. What are your thoughts on better one for first and business.

I have been having lots of problems finding jal availability though so I just booked cx for business for 12/26/16 to tpe. If I book cx can I change to jal without charge since technically the begin and end are same cities or will require 150 change fee? Any recommendations on finding better jal award availability or is that just luck? Thanks!

    Hello Rhoman.

From the airlines you are try to book on can we assume that you are planning to use AA miles? Or is it some other program?

If AA, do you have any status wit them?

Yes I am planning on using aa points, but have no status.

In F both products are very comfortable. The catering is much better on JAL in my opinion. I think the seat and comfort is better on CX but not by much. The cabin can be at times overly warm on JAL. In long haul J, I prefer JAL. The seats are about the same IMO but the catering and service are much better than on CX.

One caveat is that on JAL you will have a regional leg from Japan to TPE. The regional product is average though the food is decent. From hkg to TPE there is the possibility of booking an F cabin for the 1-1.5 hr segment on CX.

Last year I did this very trip, flying ord-hkg-tpe on CX F and returning tpe-nrt-jfk on JAL J.

Thanks for the info. How far ahead did you book for your flight? I have been looking and there is no award availability for JAL I am seeing on BA website. If I book a CX first class award for the time being since they appear to be much more available, would I be able to change JAL in the even one becomes available?

Last year my trip was in March and I booked my award tickets in early January. I got lucky I guess. I would imagine that if your origin and destination stay the same (ord and hkg) then yes you would be able to change without penalty if in the same class. That said, post AA devaluation, anything could happen.

If you have a guarantee of CX F to hkg I think you will be very happy and changing it to reroute through Tokyo may be unnecessarily long…
