Is free one way on united awards dead?
I tried to book free one-ways on with united miles but was told i have to price it as 2 tickets as system wun price it correctly.
My itinerary is international star alliance partners n has 2 open jaws n 1 stopover (i.e the stopover is in origin – n hence the free one way.. but it failed).
It’s likely the open-jaws that are the issue. What’s your itinerary?
Re Tiffany:
Itinerary (rejected by United) is SIN-BNE//SYD-SIN (stopover) -BKK(Transit)-HKG
i.e. round trip of South Asia – Australia (Origin Destination OJs)
with SIN-BNE the first leg,
SYD-SIN (Stopover) +
SIN-BKK(Transit)-HKG
(Free One-way via 2nd open jaw of ending point within South Asia : HKG; Free one-way SIN-HKG)
In the past, I tested the above on United.com (Okies, I test SIN-BKK-SYD, SYD-BKK-SIN, SIN-BKK-HKG), it worked (all flights on TG; cant book SQ online. All BKK are transits).
I called in with the United, as I decided to book the Australia legs with SQ. But I cannot add the free one-way to HKG.
And interestingly, now that United just upgrade their website, the free one-way on United.com via TG, hangs after the first leg (I.e. SIN-BKK-SYD ok, hangs before 2nd part (SYD-BKK-SIN-BKK-HKG can be loaded). With this system hang on United.com, I wonder if it is a silent removal of free one-way.
Did u manage to book any free one-ways after United.com’s system upgrades?
Was an agent not able to price it either on the phone? The new interface is horrible in a lot of ways, but I haven’t noticed any changes to the routing “rules” as such.
