Hi there,

I have gotten a really sweet deal on an economy return flight from Milano to Santiago de Chile for 370€.

Since I haven’t used my Skyteam card at all in the past years but have a little more than 170.000 miles with oneworld (Airberlin), I am wondering if there’s a clever way to redeem miles to make this long trip a little more convenient, i.e. upgrade to business class.

I noticed that Alitalia has partnerships with both Etihad and Airberlin but I cannot find anything on redeeming miles for an upgrade with Alitalia. Maybe there’s a way to transfer miles beforehand and then redeem?

Any hints appreciated, thanks!

[USER=1628]@Fielfliegär[/USER] welcome, sounds like a pretty good deal. Unfortunately I don’t know of any way to use Air Berlin miles to upgrade an Alitalia ticket. Maybe [USER=7]@Tiffany[/USER] knows a clever way. Good luck and enjoy your trip either way!

Welcome [USER=1628]@Fielfliegär[/USER]! I don’t think there’s a way to use airberlin miles in this case, but Alitalia is really aggressive about selling upgrades (even after boarding has started), so I might set aside some cash for that.

Thanks for your help, guys! Great advice! Then I might go for the cash option. Any experiences with that? Is it better/cheaper to wait for them to offer the upgrade or contact them beforehand and ask?
