How to get waitlisted for upgrade when I’m on Business Class for one leg?
Hi all,
Several months ago I booked award flights for me, my wife, and my daughter (with lots of help from Tiffany and other people). We are taking off in six weeks, and everything on the flights is good except I’m on economy class for one leg. My wife and daughter are in business, which is what I mostly care about, but it’d be nice to join them if I can.
More details: I used United miles to book partner airlines, and we’re flying IAD-NRT, then HND-SYD, all on ANA. All three of us are in business class the first leg, but I’m in economy for the second leg. (The return trip is business class all the way.)
How can I go about getting my name in for an upgrade if available? I “paid” the full award miles price for the IAD-SYD trip (it’s all one booking), so I guess if a seat becomes available I should be entitled to it? (Realizing that there are probably several other passengers with elite status or some other qualification who’d make the cut ahead of me.) I am checking the United web site for availability fairly frequently, but nothing is showing up.
keep checking for space on that one segment and call United when the seat becomes available. I think they charge a fee anyway but you shouldnt be charged any extra miles.
I’m not sure what you can do at this point other than keep monitoring. I know you can waitlist for flights on UA metal but don’t think this is possible for partner flights. @Tiffany, any other suggestions?
Correct, you can only waitlist on United flights. I’d set an ExpertFlyer alert (or start checking religiously at the 14 day mark).
Argh…I was hoping there’d be some magic solution. Thanks everyone! I’ll keep checking with my fingers crossed. I remember looking at ExpertFlyer some months ago, so I’ll have to revisit.
