How to get first class award on Lufthansa or Swiss

How to get first class award on Lufthansa or Swiss

  1. GBOAC Diamond

I have a boat load of Chase UR points as well as miles in the UA mileage plan. I’m planing a trip from California to Switzerland sometime next year and would like to use points for a first class award on either Swiss or LH — would love to experience their first class lounges and the car rides to the plane.
However I think that first award travel is next to impossible on these airlines without super elite status. So can someone let me know what the possibility of my being able to do so, and if possible how to go about getting first class award seats?

    Thanks

Hey mate! No need for status to fly Lufthansa first. It just doesn’t get offered to star alliance partner airlines more than 14 days in advance. If you have flexibility you can definitely fly it. Using ur points you can transfer them to lifemiles (87,000 to Europe) or United (110,000). Availability is USUALLY the same for both programs (although note I am having an issue with this very topic right now).

Swiss first is (almost) only ever available to its own members.

I use United’s search engine to find the flights. Have a play with a few routes to start to get a feel what’s available. Usually seats available out of Chicago to Frankfurt or Munich with connecting flights in business to other cities in Europe.

    Usually less availability from LAX.
