How to convert ThankYou points to American awards?
Hi, anybody knows how to convert ThankYou points to American Airlines awards. I have a First class ticket booked under AA miles award chart, but the flight is operated by Etihad. I know that ThankYou Points can be transferred to Etihad Guest accounts, however, it’s much higher (AA is 90k, versus EY is 117k). AA rate is before devaluation. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks.
Hi, I have a First Class ticket reserved on Etihad Air (using AA miles before devaluation rate). I understand you could transfer ThankYou points directly to Etihad Guest account, however, the rate is much lower transferring from AA (90k on AA, versus 117k on EY). Any suggestion to take advantage of the lower rate would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hi, I have an award ticket on Etihad Airways (booked using AA award before devaluation rate). I understand that I could transfer ThankYou points to Etihad Guest directly, however, it requires much fewer points transferring from AA (AA is 90k, versus, EY 117k). Any suggests to book this ticket on lower ThankYou points would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Currently, AA isnt a transfer partner of Citi ThankYou points. Are you trying to book another award? The new rate for this award using AA miles is 115k, which isnt much different from the EY rate of 117k. However, it also depends on how you value AA miles and Citi TY points, the latter being different depending on which cards you have.
This booking is currently on hold, and booked prior to devaluation, which is 90k vs the new rate at 115k. EY rate is 117k. I have points in ThankYou card (earning the points through spending on Citi Prestige card). Just trying to spend as little as possible.
In this case I think you’ll be charged the new mileage amount when you ticket the award. It’s been said many times on this blog and the Ask Lucky forum that it awards had to be sent to ticketing by midnight central time yesterday to lock in old rates.
If you do call and ticket and get the old rate though, report back! Good luck!
I was able to ticket this booking successfully with the old rate. The agent was friendly enough, and did not even fuss about honoring the old rate! If you have a reservation before 3/21 and still have not purchase, please call and request for old rate, they still honor it.
That’s a useful data point, thanks @JG77
